Q: Is it safe?
A: Paintball is an increasingly safe sport. Here at Mayhem Paintball established in 1987, we have an impeccable safety record. Our goggles can withstand a shotgun blast from 3 feet away (not that you'll be up against people with shotguns) and we have a fully trained safety marshall per 10 players - a considerably better ratio than many other paintball sites.
Q: How old do you have to be to play?
A: All players must be at least 12 years old to play - this is a industry standard and we would suggest that any site offering paintball to under 12's is not regulated by the United Kingdoms Paintball Sporting Federation (UKPSF), Mayhem Paintball's UKPSF accreditation number is acc1010.
Q: How far in advance of my intended date must I book?
A: We usually ask that you phone at least 2 weeks prior to when you want to play, however this is not a strict rule. If there is space and you want to play the very next day, we will always try to accommodate you but booking early does help avoid disappointment.
Q: How many people do we need to play?
A: 1 upwards. If you want to come and play paintball on your own, no problem we'll just put you where there is space in another group. if you have around 10 people then you'll probably form your own team and play against another 10 people. If you book for 20+ people, not only will you receive a discount, but you'll also be able to form 2 teams of 10, and play ONLY against each other all day long (or if you prefer you can play against another group of the same size). Our site capacity at Mayhem Paintball is 450, so if you have 449 friends that want to play paintball, bring them along!
Q: Is there a deposit I need to pay?
A: We ask that a £10 per head deposit is paid at least 10 days before you play, however if you have only booked in a few days before you are playing, then that is not always possible. Although we are not strict on the 10 day rule, we do require your deposit as soon as it is possible. We accept deposit payments over the phone via all major credit/debit cards. Please note all pre-pay packages must be paid in full at least 3 days before the event.
Q: What should I wear to play
A: Most people hire a set of our overalls which are worn over the clothes you arrive in, and should keep your clothes clean. But to make sure that you are comfortable during the day we suggest you wear either tracksuit bottoms or jeans and a long sleeved top, its also a good idea to bring a sweater too since you can always take it off if you get too hot.
Q: What are the games like?
A: We have a variety of different game fields and each has it own different story, most games however last for 15 minutes and require one of the two opposing teams to retrieve a 'flag' from somewhere in the field and successfully relocate it without getting shot. For more details of each individual game, please visit the Scenarios Page
Q: What fields do you have?
A: For more details of each individual game, please visit the Scenarios Page
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The cheapest way to play is to do the pre-pay packages and if you would like to understand our pricing structure in more detail please refer to our prices page. But to give a general idea, students and under 18's will pay £12 each plus paintballs, and adults pay £14 each plus paintballs. Paintballs are sold on the day at £5.99 for 100 paintballs in any quantity. We suggest that the average player will use around 500 balls in a day, and discounts are offered for large bookings. T
Q: Am i going to need more paintballs?
A: Paint usage will change for every player so its impossible to give an accurate assessment for a generic player, but often it is somewhere between 200 and 600. If you are paying for a group (typically a kids birthday party) then it is common to allow 100-200 balls per child, after that they can purchase their own if they need more. You can also view our Pre-Pay packages at the bottom of our prices page.
Q: What's involved in a day?
A: For a detailed breakdown of what is involved in a day at Mayhem Paintball, please refer to our What's Involved Page.
Q: Can i bring my own paintballs?
A: No. If you have previously been to mayhem and have had a bag of unused paint signed out by one of our staff, you can use that by all means, otherwise only paint purchased at Mayhem can be used.
Q: Do you have pre-pay packages?
A: Absolutley, You can view our Pre-Pay packages at the bottom of our prices page.
Q: Will my kids be playing against a group of adults?
A: No. We always try to keep similar age groups together. Because it is not possible to play a game of paintball with much less that 10 players aside we do have to join various groups together, it is possible that a small group of 12 year olds may be playing a group of (for example) 15 year olds, but not a bigger age gap than that.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Not really (honestly!). We suggest that everyone wears baggy trousers or jeans, we also give out free chest and back protectors to the women and when you're wearing you overalls, a hit from a paintball really isn't that painful, besides the adrenaline takes care of it anyway. Most people would liken the average hit from a paintball marker to a firm flick on the skin
Q: You advertise a free tube pick up service, how does that work?
A: We have a minibus that we use to collect players from the local tube station, Theydon Bois on the central line. When you're on the train, just give us a ring when you are at the station directly before Theydon Bois, and by the time you get there, we'll be waiting outside for you!
Q: What time should we arrive on the day that we are playing?
A: If you are playing on a weekend, then arrive at about 9:15am if you are playing on a weekday then you should arrive about 9:45 - this is of course unless you have arranged to play a night game.
Q: What time does it usually finish?
A: Well the games take as long as they take, but usually you will finish around 4:00pm to 4:30pm
Q: Do you serve lunch?
A: Yes, we have a canteen that serves a variety of food at lunchtime including a vegetarian alternative. We also have food and drink vending machines available throughout the day. To give an idea of price, cans of drink are 60p and a cheeseburger with salad is £1.50.
Q: Do you currently have any job opportunities?
A: >We are always looking to extend our team with new members, either for field work as a safety marshall or in the shop. We ask that all applicant be 17 or over and simply send us an email (with a CV attached) explaining why you'd like to join Mayhem Paintball.
